KUALA LUMPUR: Meta Platforms Inc (META) is working with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to curb online criminal activities.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said META is committed to tackle the issue especially on crimes related to scams, online gambling and also on race, religion and the royal institution (3Rs).
“The loss suffered by Malaysians between January and May this year through META platforms (Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) amounted to RM330 millions.
“This is a 25 per cent increase compared to Jan to Dec 2022.
“I believe that with this cooperation, scam crimes, online gambling and 3R issues on the META platform will be reduced,” he said in a Facebook posting today.
Also present during the meeting at Bukit Aman were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching, MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amiruddin Abdul Wahab.
